Our Club Says No to Domestic and Family Violence.

Domestic and Family Violence remains one of the most significant issues facing Australian communities. This May, as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month and the statewide “Purple Friday 8th May– Clubs Say No to Domestic Violence” initiative led by ClubsNSW, our Club is taking a clear and visible stand against violence and in support of victim-survivors.

Throughout May, we have dedicated our external billboard as a public service announcement promoting awareness, support and access to help services including 1800RESPECT. The message is simple — domestic and family violence has no place in our community, workplace or homes.

As a Club, our commitment goes beyond awareness. Over recent months, we have developed and implemented a dedicated Domestic and Family Violence workplace management plan and policy, including management training focused on how to appropriately support team members who may be experiencing domestic or family violence.

In partnership with Got Your Back Sista, we have also rolled out organisation-wide staff training to help our crew identify warning signs, understand safe first responses and know where to direct people for professional support. Together, we have created a practical response roadmap to guide staff through the first actionable steps when someone may need help.

Recognising that crisis situations often require immediate practical support, the Club has also established an essentials support pack program for individuals facing urgent homelessness or emergency relocation due to domestic violence circumstances.

On Friday 8 May, our team will participate in Purple Friday alongside more than 200 clubs across NSW by wearing purple badges as a visible show of solidarity against domestic and family violence. (ClubLIFE)

Our venue will also feature:

  • A complete purple digital takeover across in-venue screens, social media and Club communications
  • Purple foyer lighting to increase visibility and encourage conversation
  • Information promoting support services and pathways to assistance
  • Awareness messaging focused on respectful relationships and community safety

We are also proud to partner with Lake Macquarie Liquor Accord for a local hospitality industry lunch during May, with proceeds supporting Survivors R Us, helping fund frontline support services for victim-survivors in our local community.

Community clubs play an important role as safe and welcoming places where people feel connected and supported. Our participation in Purple Friday and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month reflects a long-term commitment to education, prevention, workplace support and community action.
