Graph Builders Triumphs at MBA Awards with Centenary Project Transformation

Graph Builders Wins Prestigious Master Builders Award for $10-$20 Million Renovation of the Belmont 16s Sailing Club Centenary Project

The Master Builders Association Newcastle division held its awards ceremony on Friday, 6 September 2024, where Graph Builders was honoured with the prestigious award for Best Renovation in the $10-$20 million category. This accolade was awarded for their outstanding work on the Centenary Project, a large-scale redevelopment of Belmont 16s, marking the Club’s 100-year celebration.

The renovation, which commenced in May 2022 and concluded in November 2023, took 19 months to complete and involved close collaboration between Graph Builders and Belmont 16s Sailing Club. Despite the challenges of such a significant renovation, the Club remained open at partial capacity throughout, ensuring minimal disruption to members and guests.

John King, Construction Manager at Graph Builders, also commented on the project:

“The job certainly had its challenges, particularly with the detailed design, the logistics of constructing large areas of the works above and around the waters of Lake Macquarie, and the constant awareness of working in and around a live trading operation. However, with the outstanding efforts from all stakeholders involved—from the Club, its management and staff, the design consultants, and Graph’s construction team—it proved to be a very satisfying project. The successful outcome is a great addition to the Club.”

In a decision aimed at bolstering the local economy, Graph Builders and Belmont 16s Sailing Club prioritised working with local subcontractors to execute the project, reinforcing the community’s role in the transformation.

The Centenary Project introduced several exciting new features, including a brand-new dining experience at Martha Drink & Dine on Level 1, expanded indoor-outdoor areas, new staircases for better people flow, and atriums throughout the Club. The design maximised natural light and showcased breathtaking views over Lake Macquarie, enhanced by abundant glass windows. The interior design embraced a coastal aesthetic, with light tones and modern elements creating a welcoming atmosphere year-round.

Scott Williams, CEO of Belmont 16s, expressed his gratitude and pride in the award:

“We are thrilled to see Graph Builders recognised for their exceptional work on our Centenary Project. This renovation not only transformed our space but also demonstrated the importance of collaboration and local support. The team at Graph delivered a high-quality outcome that our members and guests will enjoy for many years to come.”
