Brian Ellis Boat Shed Doubles Down on Solar

Our Commitment to our future

2025 has seen our Club continue to lead the charge in environmental responsibility, with a major green upgrade to the Brian Ellis Boat Shed. In a move that doubles down on clean energy and community-first thinking, the shed has expanded its solar capabilities significantly.

Originally equipped with 20 solar panels, the Boat Shed has recently been upgraded with an additional 36 panels, bringing the total to 56 panels and delivering a 15.84kW solar system.

The expanded solar setup powers a significant portion of Club operations with zero-emission energy, reducing our carbon footprint while reducing long-term energy costs.

This upgrade adds to Belmont 16s’ already significant sustainability efforts, complementing the 220-panel solar array installed on the main clubhouse roof. Together, these initiatives represent a total of at least 276 solar panels currently operating across the Club’s facilities.

By using local suppliers and committing to long-term environmental action, Belmont 16s is not only cutting emissions but also contributing to a greener, more resilient Lake Macquarie community.

“Sustainability isn’t just a checkbox for us, it’s a core focus that guides our decisions. We’re taking practical steps that make a real impact for our environment and our community.”
Joel Simmons, Operations Manager & Sustainability Lead, Belmont 16s Sailing Club
